Brightening your rooms makes a major improvement in their appearance and desirability. There is also very little expense involved, which is always a plus. To make your rooms look their best, remember to:

• Make sure all light fixtures have bulbs of the highest wattage for which they are rated.
• If the fixture has multiple bulbs, they should be matching, especially in open fixtures where the bulbs are visible.
• Bring additional lamps into rooms if needed.
• If the room does not have a ceiling fixture, there should be a lamp plugged into an outlet powered by a wall switch. No one wants to walk into a dark room.
• Remove heavy, unnecessary window treatments.
• Raise shades and blinds before showings and open houses.
• Wash the windows, screens, skylights and sliding doors.
